1976 Defense Nuclear Agency Cleanup Video

Enewetak Atoll Atomic Cleanup Mission video by Defense Nuclear Agency 1976

In1976, the Defense Nuclear Agency published a short video announcing the Enewetak Atoll Atomic Cleanup Mission.

The Mission was predicted to take 2 years to accomplish, but it took 3 years to complete.

Our mission began in 1977 and ended in 1980.

Much appreciation goes to the Nuclear Vault for finding and sharing it on their YouTube Channel!

  1. I noticed that many of us from the first FRST team USAF 6/77 – 11/77 aren’t shown as eligible for the HSM which is pretty laughable because we did all of the initial radiation surveys on the northern islands as well as assist the DNA with their broken bomb plutonium searches on Runit. We were (with our Army and Navy brethren) the first to enter the dragon’s maw.

    • We have not found the Air Force nor the Navy HSM Lists. The HSM list we posted includes only Army participants. Army, Air Force and Navy personnel who participated in our Atomic Cleanup Mission do qualify for the Humanitarian Service Medal.
