Enewetak: Where is it and why should you care?

Enewetak Atoll is in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Enewetak Atoll’s coordinates are 11°30’N 162°20’E.

The Manhattan Project selected Enewetak Atoll to test atomic and nuclear weapons due to its remote location.

The dri-Enewetak view their homeland location to be the center of the world.

After the U.S. Government relocated the dri-Enewetak to a smaller atoll, the Manhattan Project declared the area to be named The Pacific Proving Grounds and tested 43 atomic bombs at Enewetak Atoll (in addition to the 23 nuclear tests conducted at Bikini Atoll).

These tests were performed underwater, above ground and in the atmosphere.

Many types of radioactive elements where released during these tests. One of these elements, Plutonium-239, takes over 24,000 years to lose only half of its destructive radioactive energy.

Radioactive elements from atmospheric tests are still falling to earth and will continue to do so until god knows when.

Air currents carried radioactive elements (from 1946-1962 atmospheric and above ground tests) to other islands and atolls where they continue to eject high energy particles (which cause ionization) until they lose all their energy.

Ocean currents continue to transport radioactive elements from all these tests to locations all over the world.

The damage has been done.

Our group of Atomic Cleanup Veterans attempted to perform a radioactive cleanup from 1977 – 1980.

Many of our mission participants have serious health issues.

Many of the dri-Enewetak who returned to their homelands have serious health issues.

Please spread the word about Enewetak and our group of Atomic Cleanup Veterans.

  1. Hello,
I’m a friend of Terence Jerome Chun, who passed in 2015. My question is “Is the US Government waiting for all the clean up survivors of Enewetak to pass, to avoid shelling out monies for compensation to the families?

    • Yes they are waiting for us to die, they will never admit what was done to us. We were sent there so they could study the long term effects of radiation exposure on us. It went bad so they scrapped the program. Now they just want us to go away and forget this ever happened, even after we all die they won,t admit what they did.

    • I remember Terry Chun. Great guy, introduced me to eating squid when we were deployed to Enewetak. Had the first VW Rabbit I ever rode in. Sorry to hear of his passing.

  2. You need to contact the dept of nuclear reduction and get a copy of your radiation read outs its the only proof the military will believe.

Served and extended tour. The VA /DOD tried to deny I was ever there with cancer in my abdomen and prostrate!
Even my TAD orders only reflected from HCU2 to HCU1!
Nothing further but my CO mentioned my outstanding service while on the beach clean up team. I have all my original paperwork!
